Purpose
Much of our state's history is not
found in archives, libraries and museums. It's stashed away in the
attics, basements and closets of homes and businesses including town
offices, churches, schools and other organizations. The New Hampshire Archives Group
(NHAG) is an unincorporated volunteer organization that educates
and supports any individual or organization in New Hampshire that
is responsible for or interested in the management and
preservation of archival records. Our main purposes are:
- to facilitate and encourage the exchange of information among
New Hampshire archivists;
- to advocate support for archives and archival projects in the
state;
- to provide basic professional development opportunities;
and
- to provide collegial support to all who are
responsible for and/or interested in the management and preservation of archival records.
Meetings
The Fall 2011 NHAG meeting will be held at the Portsmouth Public Library on Sept. 28 from 9:30 to about 3:00. The morning speaker will by Charles Doleac, an attorney who was recently recognized by the Government of Japan for his efforts to teach about the Portsmouth Treay of 1905 (ending the Sino-Russian War). Doleac has been instrumental in assembling a portable display about the treaty and hee will discuss his process of chosing and mount the material. In the afternoon, Ginny Fisher of Plymouth State University will lead us in a hands-on demonstration of some techniques of creating displays in a local historical society on a limited budget. And finally, the Portsmoouth Public Library is a LEED-certified building, and would like to show us their improvements. Please join us for an interesting and worthwhile day.
Each spring and fall NHAG hosts educational workshops that are open to
all members and interested parties. Whenever possible, we
offer hands-on instruction related to preservation, collections
management, access standards, and outreach activities. Our guest
speakers come from archives, libraries, museums and cultural heritage
organizations throughout New Hampshire and beyond.
Membership
Annual dues run from June 1st through May 31st: $10.00 Individual
Member; $15.00 Institutional Member (any representative may register for
our workshops at the "Member Rate"). To join NHAG, please complete our

History
Back in 1988, a group of New Hampshire archivists and allied
professionals gathered informally to discuss continuing education
opportunities and outreach efforts to other individuals and
organizations working with historical materials. On May 26, 1993, NHAG hosted its first meeting in
Concord, NH at which time our first leaders were elected: William E. Ross,
President; Sherry Wilding-White, President Elect; and John W.
Harris Secretary/Treasurer.
